NEW BOSCH ECU HARDWARE
The 8Y RS3 was one of the first platforms to arrive equipped with the new Bosch H80 MG1CS163 ECU hardware, which is a highly sophisticated controller, that introduced new challenges in not only finding a solution to gain access to reflash the new ECU hardware, but also get oriented with the new strategies found in this new MG1CS163 ECU type, while simultaneously introducing new innovation features and solutions. Unitronic Software Engineers quickly developed an ECU unlock solution, but due to the unique nature of these new H80 MG1 ECUs, Unitronic requires ECUs to be sent to its Headquarters for unlock operations to be performed. With over 20 years of experience in this market, it was evident that some customers would not want any downtime associated with the ECU unlocks, so Unitronic is happy to offer three options regarding the ECU Unlock, in efforts to offer a variety that will suit everyone's preferences.

These modern Bosch MG1 ECUs like the ones found in this generation, are highly intelligent controllers that can effectively adapt to environmental and operational data collected from the system's sensors to ensure an unmatched level of reliability in ever-changing conditions, but also introduced unique challenges that would require some handling in performance demanding situations without impacting reliability or drivability.
Unitronic Engineers not only enhanced these models, but also developed unique and innovative ECU code, rather than just traditional calibration based adjustments only to ensure Unitronic could develop its Performance Software which is fully optimized for maximum performance together with an unmatched OEM-like level of reliability.

UNIFLEX (FLEX FUEL)
As part of this expansive project, Unitronic is proud to be the first to implement native, true, flex fuel code to the factory Bosch MG1CS163 ECU called UniFLEX. Unitronic’s UniFLEX Hardware allows for a plug and play installation through its proprietary UniFLEX Module and a genuine Continental Ethanol Sensor with required fittings and harnesses.
When combined with Unitronic’s UniFLEX-enabled Performance Software Add-On, the factory Bosch MG1CS163 ECU receives ethanol content over the CAN-bus and utilizes this fuel composition data to blend mapping of timing, boost pressure, fueling, and much more completely on-the-fly. Simplified, this allows for seamless transitions from 0% to 85% ethanol content — or said another way, 100% gasoline to 85% ethanol and anywhere in between, without needing an ECU reflash.
UniFLEX is also Bluetooth® enabled, allowing for wireless connectivity with iOS and Android mobile devices using the Unitronic UniE85 Manager App.

ADVANCED FEATURES (UAF)
Adding even more to the magnitude of this project, Unitronic is proud to introduce its FeatureBox and UAF Control App. Thanks to proprietary ECU code, the Unitronic Advanced Features (UAF) Software Add-On and UAF Control app gives unparalleled levels of control for true adjustability directly from your mobile phone.

The Unitronic FeatureBox or UniFLEX Module act as a bridge between your vehicle and mobile device, seamlessly connecting to the factory soundaktor harness beneath the rain tray to inject a signal directly into the CAN-bus network with its included plug-n-play wiring harness. Paired with the UAF Control app, it puts advanced functionality at your fingertips in an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

Unitronic has also built in plenty of failsafes and safety mechanisms into its Advanced Features to protect the engine and its components as much as possible. Unitronic has even incorporated refresh timers into its ECU code, utilizing the OEM Virtual Cockpit Torque Gauge to display 15-second countdown before RLC becomes available for reactivation, for example. Additionally, during RLC activation, the torque gauge will show a 5-second countdown during RLC activation before the function times out. Certain preconditions apply for specific functions to activate, while other criteria can also prevent them from engaging. See guide below.

HOW TO BUY
Unitronic is happy to offer three options regarding the ECU Unlock, in efforts to offer a variety that will suit 8Y RS3 owner’s preferences.

First, you’ll need to choose your unlock method:
Send-in Original ECU for Unlock
This option can be purchased through Unitronic or any Unitronic Authorized Dealer. It requires your ECU to be removed from your vehicle and sent to Unitronic HQ for an unlock and initial tuning. This option will result in some down-time of your vehicle.

Core Exchange
This option can be purchased through Unitronic or any Unitronic Authorized Dealer. You will be shipped a replacement ECU that is mostly plug-n-play into your vehicle. You’ll need to do some clearing of fault codes, but otherwise trouble-free. Once the replacement ECU is installed, return your original ECU back to Unitronic for a refund on the core deposit you made at the time of initial purchase.
ECU Unlock $1000 USD
Core Exchange Deposit $2250 USD
Core returns are required to be received within 30-days or less after receiving the replacement ECU. You will be provided with a pre-paid return label and commercial invoice documents. You are required to ensure the documents are placed properly on the outside of the box and the ECU is received in proper working order, free of any damage internally, externally, and is stock and unmodified. Unitronic reserves the right to refuse any core exchange deposit refunds if it deems the ECU is not in undamaged proper working order at its sole and reasonable discretion. Returns received after 30-days are subject to late fees deducted from the core exchange deposit refund.
Replacement ECU (RECOMMENDED)
This option can be purchased through Unitronic or any Unitronic Authorized Dealer. You will be shipped a replacement ECU that is mostly plug-n-play into your vehicle. You’ll need to do some clearing of fault codes, but otherwise trouble-free. You can freely swap between your original ECU and your Unitronic Tuned Unlocked ECU, so long as you ensure proper hardware modifications are maintained according to the requirements of the ECU currently connected.

Core Exchange and Replacement ECU options include an ECU that is ready to be plugged into your 8Y RS3 Unitronic requires you to provide your VIN and some other basic information about you and your vehicle in order to ensure the ECU can be properly prepared to be used in your 8Y RS3. Performance Software is not included in the pricing listed above.
